Board of Directors
Ana Goldfarb
President – Board member since September 2024
Ana is passionate about the high-quality, accessible Montessori educational opportunities Desert Sky offers to the Bend community. She has worked in the early childhood education field, including Head Start, public elementary and private Montessori.
Ana and her family relocated from Florida to Bend in 2020, where they’ve embraced the many recreational opportunities Central Oregon has to offer. Since her daughter started Kindergarten at Desert Sky, Ana has been volunteering to support the school through what has grown to be Friends of Desert Sky (FODS) with fundraising and school-community building events.
In her free time, Ana enjoys exploring the outdoors with her family and chatting with friends over a good cup of coffee.
Heather Marshall
Secretary — Board member since September 2023
Heather grew up in the Seattle area. She moved to Corvallis, Oregon, in high school, where she met her husband, who both moved to the Portland Metro area and graduated from Portland State University.
She moved in 2022 from Portland, Oregon, with her family. She fell in love with the community and beauty that Bend has to offer. She is grateful to be a part of the Montessori community and mentality.
Professionally, she has spent the last decade working in tech as a user interface and experience designer.
She enjoys spending time with her family, camping, exercising, and being outside in her spare time.
Chelsea Mayer
Treasurer — Board member since January 2025
Chelsea became passionate about the life-long learning environment that a Montessori education cultivates after watching her son blossom in a Montessori pre-school. She also loves that Desert Sky provides this opportunity to the students in the Bend-La Pine School District.
Professionally, Chelsea is a partner at a local tax CPA firm and has her CPA and CFP® licenses. She has been practicing accounting for over a decade and is excited about the opportunity to help the school through her financial experience and knowledge.
Chelsea grew up in San Diego, went to college in the Pacific Northwest and relocated to Bend from Portland in 2016. In her free time, you will find Chelsea snowboarding, camping, and hiking with her husband and two kids or playing soccer in several local leagues.
Logan Steele
Board member since October 2025
Logan was raised attending Seattle public schools, begrudgingly left the PNW for a decade-plus for higher education, then had the opportunity to return by way of a faculty position with Oregon State University in Corvallis, and now with OSU-Cascades. There he works as Program Coordinator and Associate Professor of Accounting as well as serves on the Oregon Board of Accountancy.
With a strong interest in education, Logan sees immense value in the Montessori method and feels really fortunate to be a part of the Desert Sky community. In his free time, Logan likes to get outside and enjoy the mountains with his wife and daughter.
Bailey Johnston
Board member since November 2025
Bailey Johnston grew up near Mount Shasta and spent many childhood years exploring Oregon, a place he has always loved. After moving to Oregon in 2005, he later lived in Alaska, California, and Missouri before joyfully returning to Bend with his family in May 2025. Bailey is the proud parent of two children who have flourished in Montessori classrooms, and he fully embraces lifelong learning. As a licensed civil engineer, he brings analytical thinking, collaborative problem-solving, and a deep commitment to community to his work on the Desert Sky Montessori Board.
Bailey’s introduction to Montessori began in Missouri, where both of his children attended a private Montessori school and he witnessed firsthand how the environment nurtured their independence, curiosity, and confidence. This experience inspired his advocacy for Montessori education and his desire to support DSM’s mission of fostering joyful, self-directed learning in every child.
Outside of school involvement, Bailey enjoys skiing, rock climbing, and biking—passions that reflect his appreciation for nature, adventure, and active family time. He is excited to contribute to the DSM community by helping ensure a strong, inclusive, and vibrant learning environment for students and families.
